Common Perspectives, Customs, and Attitudes

Udoxans are considered peculiar by most Asla'nirians due to their very different values and understanding of the world around them— they are utilitarian, with a high value on the advancement of technology and unification of their kin. As a whole, Udoxans have very different ideas of morality— they do not waste anything, not even bodies, and most of their species are openly cannibalistic, although strict, regional laws must be followed. They emphasize maintaining their natural resources to ensure that their efficiency is consistent and focus on preserving their ecosystem and harvesting what is needed or that which needed to be removed, such as dead wood. Udoxans have a highly stratified society and value magical potency and might within their leadership, as well as experience due to their technocratic nature— although they are not inherently theocratic, most Udoxans are pious and much of their nobility is composed of their pantheon. Due to their emphasis on unity and authority, most Udoxans prefer a caste-based system and strong, strict leadership— they do not inherently frown upon democracy, but after Drn'Kadishtu's attacks, many are not fond of looser governance. Udoxans' long history of being persecuted by much of the world around them has led them to become isolationistic and generally unwelcome towards outsiders, especially due to the longstanding cascade of terrorist and cultist organisations— for this reasons, any suspicion towards an individual is frequently reported although no reward is granted in most circumstances. Due to the high prevalence of Summa Substantiale and Imperium Mentis, many outsiders would find Udoxans to be uncomfortable, as Udoxans feel that honesty, bluntness, and openness are ideal— they do not stray from reading one another's minds nor examining their souls and telepathic communication is standard and the most common form. Udoxans have a strict policy against True Sinners and most have a strong hatred for those who manipulate, harm, and abuse others.

Due to the wide variety in species found within Udoxa, as well as the several dozen ethnic groups, Udoxans have a vast array of distinct interests and preferences— some, such as those orientated towards the God Ja'kor are rather militaristic, whereas those orientated towards Qir'atok are homemakers and scholars first and foremost. Udoxa's incredibly populous and diverse nature tends to result in these distinct interests and cultural attitudes producing unusual divides in society in regards to propriety, especially between more elder populations and the youth— older members of the populace, especially nobility, tend to place a greater emphasis on etiquette and refinement in comparison to the exhibitionistic, albeit generally still decently proper youth. The Udoxan government has taken care to preserve the values of its various ethnic groups, with localised leadership having been established to ensure equal representation. Due to their long and convoluted history as well as expansive pantheon and racial diversity, Udoxans have an extensive set of mythos, folklore, and stories that have spanned past megannum, with much of this being written down— Udoxa has some of the largest collections of both fictional and nonfictional literature within Asla'nir due to their tendency to magically preserve texts, as well as an abundance of museums, libraries, and academies due to their emphasis on academics. Additionally, Udoxans have an appreciation for the fine arts and combat, including the likes of gladiatorial performances, visual arts, and performance arts. Due to the automation of many aspects of medial labour and the socialist state, Udoxans have more free-time and generally make a high enough income that they can sustain creative endeavours. This wealth has further instilled a strong interest in fashion and consumer goods. There is a vested interest in the occult, the mind, the soul, and certain taboo topics, such as death. As such, the common faiths within Udoxa lead to Udoxans pursuing magic types that would ordinarily be shunned elsewhere but are welcomed with open arms within Udoxa. Their interest in technology and magic leads them to idealize the production of magical, robotic, magitechnological, and artisan goods.

Commonfolk Wealth

Due to Udoxa's restrictions on the economy to reduce inflation, the overall income of the commonfolk varies— the Udoxan government has regulated the minimum wage for different career types and regulates the costs of various basic items. For many professions, the minimum wage is over ten copper an hour, making Udoxan citizens naturally quite wealthy, as many can make a silver in a day's worth of work, even without specialised training or an education. Due to Udoxa offering their citizens basic needs, like housing and food, many who make a lesser income are still provided for comfortably, however, Udoxa will only pay for the most basic of needs and will not pay for luxuries. That being said, the greater wealth a citizen makes yearly, the greater their income taxes, as the Udoxan government taxes higher income citizens for more money and may even stop providing them welfare. That being said, whilst those who have a higher education and are rewarded meritocratically for their efforts, companies are highly regulated in Udoxa— unlike many governments, Udoxa requires larger companies to be operated by unions, with certain industries involving the government partially owning or regulating companies. For these companies, although the role of CEO still exists, higher ranking officials are often appointed by the union for their skill. Smaller companies, however, are abundant within Udoxa and common— they are still operated by entrepreneurs and families, more often than not.
