Giant

From Beyond the Veil

Summary

  • Difficulty To Work With: Intermediate; whilst Giants do possess some complexity in balancing and the sheer number of variants that they possess, Giants are generally somewhat easy to manage culturally and their variants are generally simplistic enough despite their quantity that Giants can generally be managed with some patience.
  • Permissions: All Giants require permission to work with.
  • Activity: Most variants lean diurnal.
  • Languages: Jotun.
  • Major Faiths: Alyriana, Arikar, and Ki are consistently popular amongst most variants, however, Saiduka tend to worship Sseth'ak whereas Ymirians worship Nethis. Some worship other Gods as well, but it depends on the variant— for example, Steinjotun worship Fyjra.
  • Regions: Aloernarch, although small populations do exist in parts of Vasterioth and Udoxa.
  • Courting: Jotun are polyamorous and seek out partners that can provide for their children, those they deeply respect, or produce substantially potent enough heirs.
  • Major Cultural Notes: Giants live in tightly-knit clans and, whilst they have historically been prone to fighting amongst themselves, this has declined considerably over the past few hundred years due to Giants' declining population. In spite of this, most Giants have a general distaste for certain variants or certain outsider clans and most Jotun nobility, although they generally respect their king, other species, and the High Court. Most Giant clans roughly have large territories, however, each clan varies from nomadic to sedentary and each clans' values vary depending on the variant of Jotun. Giants take great pride in their children passing various rites of passage as they age that vary from clan to clan and they are granted tattoos for completing them— those that fail to complete them oftentimes are scorned by their parents, however, and particularly ruthless siblings might attempt to interrupt their siblings' rites, although, should they be caught or perform kin-slaying without it being in the name of self-defense, they are oftentimes exiled.
