Goketsu

Referred to in the modern era as the World Tree of Blood, Goketsu was originally blessed by Kinyokar, but later tainted by Sseth'ak's own twisted curse. Featuring crimson leaves and darkened bark, Goketsu is rather small in comparison to most World Trees but possesses a deep connection with Long Gui and has produced a small continent on the back of a living entity— it feeds upon his blood, certainly, but much of their relationship is symbiotic. Settled in the Sakura Woodlands, it has seen battlefield after battlefield upon the ground close to it due to the countless civil wars and coups that have brought about various new Emperors, Daimyo, and Shōguns. Despite that, Goketsu can almost be described as vaguely parasitic to the people of Furukame— it is claimed that the tree is capable of driving others into violence for the sake of the betterment of Furukame and that it has caused multiple wars. Despite that, Furukame's bloody history has proven fruitful, as Goketsu is capable of taking blood spilt on the continent of Furukame and using it to fertilise the landscape, essentially allowing bloodshed to enhance the growth of all that resides upon it. It is for this reason that wars that occur within Furukame result in ages of prosperity, as the bloodshed across the land results in a completely new series of growth. Crops become enormous, livestock grow healthy and strong, and flora sprouts within Furukame's wilds almost instantaneously overnight as a result.

Trivia

  • Furukame was originally inspired partially by Pandaria, with the idea of it being placed upon the back of a Kaiju originating from the mythology of the World Turtle in Chinese mythology. Its real-world inspirations include China, Mongolia, Korea, and Thailand depending on the region of Furukame one is in, but the most notable influence is Japan's Edo period.
  • Goketsu is the youngest out of all of the World Trees and Fyjra specifically asked Long Gui if he would be willing to carry it, to which the Kaiju replied: "Let my blood become the blood of this land, let her roots dig into my back and thus mountains and life shall spring up from me. This is my wish, let this be true." It is one of the only quotes from the mighty Dragon Turtle written down in all of Furukame's history, as few have ever been capable of speaking to Long Gui during its existence.
  • Long Gui is said potentially be Kinyokar's son and one of his beloved students— which is strange, given that he chose to place an Empire atop his back. The Demigod Daidara of Aloernarch is said to originate from Long Gui and Fyjra, but the two have never held sexual relations or any particular romance.
