Bloodlines

From Beyond the Veil

Introduction to Bloodlines

A bloodline is an ancestry that hails back to a Core Race, one of the first twelve species introduced within Asla'nir and some of the most powerful. Whilst many scholars debate as to why Core Races in particular have abilities flow through their bloodline, a large part of it is believed to be due to residual mana being passed down and that Core Races have a substantial enough portion of mana that it reliably and consistently passes down over many, many generations. Bloodlines, as a whole, can make even members of the weakest races quite potent and, alongside faith, serves as a powerful source of magic for those who would otherwise have no potential or aptitude for a magic type. Some races, such as Humans, notably have an affinity for their bloodline's magic, strengthening their bloodline based magic in exchange for their naturally poor aptitude for magic on their own. All species within Asla'nir with the exception of Humans and the likes of Golems or Robotic Artificians have an innate bloodlines that tie back to the races that mixed to form their species— for example, Naga have a Regulus and Draconian based ancestry. One is said to have significant background within a race so long as they are have one-sixteenth to one-half of blood from that race— as in, so long as that ancestry hails from, at the furthest back, a great grandparent.

Cambion Heritage

Stemming from Cambions, who are native to Vasterioth, Liranon, and Udoxa, those with a Cambion heritage are rare outside of those particular regions. Should one have significant Cambion blood, they are classified as a Zuyodul, otherwise known as a Hyling, or an Upeydul, otherwise known as an Impling, depending on their size. Although Zuyodul and Upeydul generally resemble their non-Cambion parent more than their Cambion parent, many still take on aspects of their Cambion relatives— they may feature sets of horns; pointed ears; a pair of leathery wings; a pointed, prehensile tail; vibrant, glowing eyes; and tints of crimson, amber, violet, cobalt, pine, fuchsia, and gold to their skin and hair, but those may be greyscale as well. This, of course, is not considering any traits specific to the particular variant of Cambion they are descended from. Those with more distal blood may have a distinctive hair colour; glowing, colourful eyes; or small traits like fanged teeth, but rarely have other attributes from their Cambion ancestry. Hylings and Implings traditionally have some of the latent magic of their Cambion relative, as do all who have a Cambion heritage, although it is generally weaker should one not be a Hyling or Impling proper. Traditionally, one would expect to see usage of Defanatus, however, depending on the Cambion one is related to, one might have access to some forms of Viscus Insero, Viva Caelatura, Elementum Creo, Vis Stellae, Umbra et Lux, Rogus Vitalus, Natura Animi, or Imperium Mentis.

Celestial Heritage

Hailing from Celestials, which are found within Alnabi, Tiryt, and Liranon, those with significant Celestial background are known as Ishim or Putto depending on their size. Ishim and Putto appear generally somewhat akin to their non-Celestial parent's race, albeit with Celestial features, such as the addition of a set of white, feathered wings; patches of feathers across their body; glowing, light-hued eyes; or other aspects of their parentage depending on their Celestial ancestor. Due to the drastic variety in Celestials, Ishim oftentimes have a wide array of other traits that are difficult to list beyond this point, however, those with a distal Celestial ancestry rarely show much of their heritage beyond small allusions to it due to their eye colour, having glowing eyes, or their hair colour— most Humans, for example, do not have white hair without some sort of ancestry unless they have albinism— however, much of these are subtle. Ishim and Putto traditionally have some of the latent magic of their Cambion relative, as do all who have a Celestial heritage, although it is generally weaker should one not be an Ishim or Putto proper. Traditionally, one would expect to see usage of Caedo, however, depending on the Celestial one is related to, one might have access to some forms of Viscus Insero, Viva Caelatura, Elementum Creo, Vis Stellae, Umbra et Lux, Rogus Vitalus, Natura Animi, or Imperium Mentis.

Daiesthai Heritage

Originating from the ancient Daiesthai, which are entirely native to Udoxa, most of those with substantial Daiesthai heritage are, simply put, Daiesthai. It takes several generations of intermingling with other races for one to have a Daiesthai ancestry that does not result in one being a Daiesthai outright and due to Daiesthai being one of the races most prone to miscarriages, to have a Daiesthai heritage is rare indeed, especially considering its constrictions to Udoxa. There are no hybrid races stemming from Daiesthai, nor any particular term for those who have Daiesthai blood, but some scholars have been considering using an Imperialis term that roughly translates to 'Shadowbearer' or 'Bearer of Shadow.' This relates to their innate potential for Umbra et Lux, as well as their body, which generally has patches of a shadow-like substance much akin to that which Daiesthai are composed of and Daiesthai-like traits— in those with distant ancestries, they generally only have these manifest during times of extreme emotion, during which their ancesteral magic is prone to lashing out. however. Beyond Umbra et Lux, the main magic that those with Daiesthai heritage are known for is an innate talent for learning Summa Substantiale and Imperium Mentis considerably more quickly than their peers, however, due to the distance of this ancestry for most who have a Daiesthai heritage, most generally do not have these magics naturally without training and, thus, going through the process of learning these magics. Those with Daiesthai ancestry typically become Daiesthai upon death.

Draconic Heritage

Related to Greater Draconians, which are found across almost the entirety of Asla'nir with the exception of Tir'anor, those with a significant Draconic background are known as Mok'takdra, or, Lesser Draconians, which are separated into different categories depending on their appearance. Lesser Draconians can range dramatically in appearance due to the wide variety of Draconian variants, however, they generally are noted for having scales; horns; fangs; claws; and varying degrees of Draconic influences in their appearance depending on the amount of Draconic blood they have— one that is half Greater Draconian, for instance, may have an elongated snout, digitigrade legs, and scales covering their entire body. Those who have a more distant Draconic heritage might have a hair colour or eye colour that reflects the Draconic ancestor in question, or, very rarely, small traces of scales, which are based upon their Vinthraturi— a descendant of a Red Draconian might have red hair and molten eyes, for example. Due to each Vinthraturi being unique magically, those related to Draconians may have a natural talent in Elementum Creo, Umbra et Lux, Sacrum Deum, Rogus Vitalus, Natura Animi, Vis Stellae, Imperium Mentis, or Viscus Insero— it entirely depends upon the Vinthraturi of the Draconian in question and their variant, however. Usually, the Greater Draconians' ability to utilise Summa Substantiale is constricted to close descendants, as is their ability to control magic via their breath.

Eldritch Heritage

Fae Heritage

Stemming from the Fae, which spawn from almost all of Asla'nir's wilderness with the exception of Tir'anor, those with notable Aes Sídhe ancestry are known as Auf, or Wildkin. Wildkin come in a wide array of forms, as, although they resemble their other, non-Fae relative, they oftentimes take on many of the traits of the Fae relative they possess. Wildkin are denoted for taking on animalistic, floric, elemental, or mycelial traits in addition to the traits of their non-Fae parent, depending on what type of Fae they hail from. They oftentimes share many other minor properties with their Faerie relative— they often have slightly longer front limbs; claws; fangs; sharp features; pure coloured, glowing eyes without a white sclera or visible pupil; and are distinctly tall, with slightly sinewy builds. Those descended from Fae oftentimes have minor attributes as well, but are generally denoted for having very minor attributes, such as a distinctive hair colour; glowing, colourful eyes; fangs; and sharp features. Those with a Faerie heritage traditionally have access to decently potent Natura Animi, however, the magic beyond that point varies wildly due to the differences between Seilsidhe and Drassidhe Fae and the different body variants. As such, Fae can naturally have an aptitude for many other magics, including Elementum Creo, Imperium Mentis, Summa Substantiale, Rogus Vitalus, Viscus Insero, Umbra et Lux, and Vis Stellae.
